How to Create Canadian Tax Receipts
A Canadian tax receipt provides a summary of contributions made by Canadian donors to a fund during the specified time period. The receipts comply with the Canada Revenue Agency's requirements regarding the information that must be included on an official tax receipt. This topic shows you how to create receipts for your donors.
IMPORTANT
Before a Canadian Tax Receipt report can be created, options that the make report content available must already be configured. If you need instructions for configuring report content, go to How to Configure Donor Report Content. Then,
when ready to create a report, return to this procedure.
- On the Home page, open the Donor Reports page.
- In the Donor Report dropdown list, select the Tax Receipt option.
- Set up the report. For descriptions of the setup options, go to Setup Options for the Tax Receipt Report.
- If desired, you can apply filters to determine what records to include in the report. To apply filters to a report, complete the following:
- Click this button in the upper-right corner: (Configure).
- From the displayed menu, select this option: Filters.
- The Report Filters window has two tabs: Include Payment Types and Other Filters. On each tab, select the filters you want to apply. For descriptions of
the filters, go to Filter Options for Donor Reports.
- Click to exit the window.
- Click this button to generate the report: . Then, select one of these options:
- Official: (PDF) prints donor tax receipts that meet the Canadian standards for a legal receipt. This version includes the language similar to the following: "Official Receipt for Income Tax Purposes."
- Preview: (PDF) prints a draft version of the donor tax receipts. This version is for review purposes only and includes the language similar to the following: "Draft Only: Not an Official Receipt."
- Excel: the Excel version uses the same data source as the Official and Preview options but may contain more data, which is presented in an .xls
layout. Choose this option if you want to do a mail merge or if you want to import the data in the selected report into a spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel.
- After you submit a report for processing, the system estimates the time it takes to generate the report. For information on how the system handles report processing, go to How the System Handles Long-Running Reports.
- Follow your browser's instructions for opening the downloaded report.
